Contact organisation Join the 18+ Committee at AFS Interkultur Denmark AFS Interkultur Denmark is a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating intercultural understanding through exchange programmes, volunteering, and learning experiences.
Every year, we bring together young people from around the world and support them in gaining skills, perspectives, and friendships that last a lifetime.AFS was founded in 1915 as the American Field Service and developed into an intercultural exchange organisation in 1947, and AFS Interkultur Denmark has been active since the mid-1950s.
AFS Interkultur Denmark is therefore proud to be not only Denmark’s biggest, but also oldest exchange organisation.
Behind this work is a dedicated group of volunteers who make it all happen- including our 18+ Committee (also known as CAP
- Coordinating and Planning Committee).
The committee plays a key role in shaping the 18+ exchange programmes (our volunteering and university programmes).
This includes: Planning and organising workshops and orientations for exchange students through activities related to intercultural learning and competences Hosting information meetings for people curious about going abroad Facilitating online sessions that support intercultural learning, reflection, connections and personal development before, during, and after an exchange programme Airport pickups: welcoming incoming international students to Denmark by ensuring a smooth journey to their destinations in the country (with free coffee) The committee meets weekly in Copenhagen every Wednesday from 5
- 7 PM. Attendance every week is not expected as a lot of our volunteers also work, studies etc.
However, to ensure close cooperation between members, regular participation is strongly encouraged.
Online participation is also possible from time to time.The main language of our meetings and communication is English, so Danish knowledge is not compulsory.
What you’ll be doing as a volunteer As part of the team, you’ll contribute to: Planning and running camps and events for AFS 18+ international and national participants Designing, facilitating and presenting sessions within the framework of Global Citizenship (both in-person and online) Supporting participants through dialogue and engagement Communication, coordination, and teamwork across activities Developing leadership and facilitation skills in practice Who are we looking for?
You don’t need to have been part of AFS or travelled with us to join.What matters most is curiosity, engagement, and motivation to create meaningful experiences for others.
We’re especially looking for people who: Have a passion for travel, intercultural exchange, or global communities Enjoy working with people and creating engaging activities Are eager to learn, grow, and take responsibility Enjoy being part of a committed and social volunteer environment Since the committee meets weekly in Copenhagen, it is an advantage if you live nearby.

AFS er en non-profit organisation, baseret på et netværk af engagerede frivillige med formålet at arbejde for mere fred gennem interkulturel forståelse.AFS Interkultur er demokratisk organiseret med mere end 2.000 medlemmer fordelt over hele landet og et sekretariat med ansatte på Frederiksberg.
Organisationen dækker Danmark med nationale udvalg og 22 lokalforeninger med ca.
500 frivillige, der, i et stærkt fællesskab, skaber gode rammer for interkulturel læring gennem udveksling i Danmark.
AFS formidler unges møder med fremmede kulturer verden over gennem skoleophold for udvekslingsstudenter samt frivillige arbejdsophold med et fagligt eller socialt indhold.
De frivillige skaber aktiviteter og et netværk omkring de unge og deres familier og deres læringsrejse.
