Founding Backend Developer — AI API for Real Estate Marketing
Minimapper is a Finnish proptech startup building an AI-powered tool for making real estate photos understandable.
Our product helps property portals, brokerages, and landlords make listings easier to understand by showing exactly where each photo was taken within the property. Minimapper adds a small floor plan minimap with a viewing marker to listing photos, giving property seekers a clear spatial understanding of the spaces from the very beginning.
Even though floor plans and photos are two of the most important assets in real estate marketing, this crucial connection is often missing from property listings. Interior photos can look attractive, but users often struggle to understand the spatial flow of the property.According to a user survey by leading Finnish property portal Etuovi.com, 80 % struggle with spatial understanding without Minimapper, and two-thirds want to see Minimapper in listings, as it helps 87 % understand the spaces more easily.
Minimapper is available in all HOAS properties in the Helsinki region, where they manage over 10 000 apartments. In 2025 alone, Minimapper helped over 650,000 students to find their next home more easily.
We are now developing Minimapper into an automated AI API that can process property listings at scale. The goal is to enable major real estate portals and listing platforms to automatically add minimaps to property photos whenever a floor plan is available.
We are looking for a backend developer to help build the systems, cloud infrastructure, and integrations around our AI pipeline.
WHAT YOU WOULD WORK ON
You would work closely with the founder on turning Minimapper’s existing product and AI development into a scalable backend/API product.
Your work could include:
- Designing and building backend systems for the Minimapper AI API
- Creating scalable API architecture for property portals, brokerages, landlords, and listing platforms
- Building integrations around our AI pipeline
- Turning existing app logic and AI workflows into cloud-compatible backend services
- Creating systems for processing floor plans, interior photos, and visual outputs
- Working with cloud infrastructure, databases, storage, queues, authentication, and deployment workflows
- Improving reliability, performance, security, and maintainability of the system
- Taking part in core technical decisions as an early team member
This role is especially suitable for someone who enjoys building systems from the ground up and wants meaningful technical ownership.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are especially interested in someone with strong backend skills and enough full-stack understanding to work across the product when needed.
Relevant skills include:
- Backend development and API design
- Scalable backend architecture
- Cloud infrastructure, preferably Google Cloud
- Dart and Flutter experience
- Databases, authentication, storage, and server-side architecture
- AI APIs, visual AI, image processing, and computer vision
- Building reliable and maintainable production systems
- Integrations with external platforms
- Product thinking and practical technical decision-making
Understanding of real estate technology, property portals, floor plans, spatial reasoning, or visual property marketing is a strong plus.
You do not need to match every item above. The most important thing is the ability to build robust backend systems around a real AI product and take ownership of technical execution.
WHAT WE OFFERThis opportunity is best suited for someone who is motivated by startup ownership and long-term upside.
Initially, the compensation is expected to be primarily option-based rather than salary-based, with the aim of building a well-funded, scalable company together. The exact structure, vesting, and ownership terms would be agreed separately.
Depending on the person, the role can start part-time, project-based, or grow toward a full-time founding team role as funding and commercial progress develop.
