The position is combined with a position as professor or associate professor with special focus on translational type 1 diabetes research at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this position the Bartholin Institute wishes to strengthen the leadership in translational type 1 diabetes research in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship/the associate professorship and the senior researcher position.

About the department The Bartholin Institute is an experimental cancer and diabetes research department at Rigshospitalet, Department of Pathology, Centre for Diagnostics.
The Bartholin Institute is also affiliated with the University of Copenhagen as part of the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC). The Bartholin Institute houses three research groups and is situated at Copenhagen Biocenter close to Rigshospitalet and academic institutions.
Research functions and focus areas of the department The Bartholin Institute is a research department working on various aspects of cancer biology and diabetes. The department covers aspects on cancer growth, recurrence, microenvironment and pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes.
Qualifications For all applicants, regardless of academic background, documentation for competences in the field of laboratory based translational diabetes research should be specified. The capacity of the candidate to integrate research and clinical perspectives is emphasized.
The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and expand the departments research into translational diabetes type 1 research.
Hence, it is essential that the applicant has a proven track- record within this area.
The applicant is expected to establish a cutting-edge research program with clear translational potential and should also have demonstrated the ability to attract external funding to sustain such a program.
Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship or the associate professorship) and to the hospital (the senior researcher position) cf.the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship/associate professorship.
Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions.
This also applies to the applicants who are already employed at Copenhagen University Hospital- Rigshospitalet.
Salary and conditions are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the relevant trade union and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Director at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC).
The remaining time will be allocated for other tasks at the Bartholin Institute and the Department of Pathology (e.g.research administration, personnel responsibility, methods establishment and development, grant writing and the establishment of a competitive research group) in agreement with the Head of the Bartholin Institute.
The professor will receive a start package covering the salary of 1-2 group members and technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time technical position from the Bartholin Institute.
Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the Head of the Bartholin Institute, Rigshospitalet.
