The IT University of Copenhagen invites highly motivated individuals to apply for a Postdoc position the Human-Computer Interaction and Design section starting in February 2026 or soon thereafter.

The position is part of Aske Mottelson’s research project that investigates how digital technologies can be used to understand and model human behavior and communication through large-scale data, experimental studies, and computational analyses.

We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University's vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity.

Position

The postdoctoral researcher will develop and study new ways of collecting and interpreting large scale human data through crowdsourcing. Specifically, the project explores infant vocalizations and parental interaction through crowdsourced data from connected devices.

The position offers the opportunity to design and run studies, prototype experimental interfaces, analyze human and signal data, and publish in leading venues within human-computer interaction, psychological science, and data science. Applicants are very welcome to bring new perspectives that complement the existing empirical and analytical approaches.

Qualificaitons
  • PhD in a relevant field such as human-computer interaction, cognitive science, data science, computer science, quantitative psychology, or related areas
  • Publications in relevant conferences (e.g., CHI, UIST, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR) or psychology or scientific journals.
  • Documented experience with one or more of the following: behavioral experimentation, crowdsourcing studies, quantitative analysis, computational modeling, or signal processing
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, R, Swift, C, bash)

Please do apply if you believe you can contribute meaningfully to the project’s goal, even if you do not meet all of the qualifications. We are open for candidates that bring independent thinking and new ways of conducting empirical research across computer science and psychology.

Research Enviroment

The Human-Computer Interaction and Design section at ITU works across a variety of research areas within HCI, such as interaction and participatory design and responsible AI. The group combines qualitative and quantitative methods and values open collaboration and creativity.

The research will be undertaken in collaboration with other groups, both from ITU and from other universities.

The position provides access to a broad research network (such as CHI Nordics and Pioneer Centre for AI), modern research and compute facilities, and funding for conference travel.
