Building a next generation foundry for quantum processor manufacturing – We are looking for an Optical Engineer to join our team.

Do you want to be a part of pioneering quantum computing in a world-class quantum ecosystem in the heart of Copenhagen? Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is a newly founded company, owned by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), aimed at developing next generation Quantum Computing Processor technologies.

Our mission is to establish a foundry capable of manufacturing quantum processor units using novel methods that meet the extreme requirements for purity and precision that are needed to bring Quantum Computing to scale.

About us

Our company is part of a vibrant and growing Danish quantum ecosystem, and we collaborate closely with world-leading researchers at Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP www.nqcp.ku.dk) based at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen.

The NQCP programme is designed to facilitate and drive research and innovations at multiple levels – from developing quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

In close collaboration with NQCP and international partners, we aim to pioneer chip-based fabrication and packaging methods for state-of-the-art quantum processors.

Join our team

We are looking for an optical and electrical engineering lead to join our innovative team of talented and diverse international professionals. You will lead our team of optical and electrical engineers by setting direction, securing progress and contributing to innovative design of new advanced research equipment.

The role requires cross-disciplinary collaboration between mechanics and electronics.

The position requires expertise in optical design and characterization of surfaces on nanometer scale using optical methods. The successful candidate has broad knowledge of optical design and instrumentation that provides a strong foundation for building specialized equipment partly in Ultra High Vacuum.

Strong leadership, management and collaboration skills are also essential.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Building and leading a high performing team
  • Project management to coordinate projects and roadmaps with tools and process development teams towards fully packaged QPU’s.
  • Lead development of novel wafer-scale characterization and pattern alignment using optical methods
  • Assist and support in the creation of prototype optical setups utilizing laser sources, cameras, alignment stages, mirrors etc.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

Your qualifications include:

  • MSc or PhD in Physics specializing in optical engineering, or similar
  • Experience leading small high performing engineering teams
  • Broad experience with electronics, data acquisition, and control systems
  • Knowledge and ability to work with software, specifically Win/Linux/Python/C
  • Skills to perform meticulous written documentation and test reports
  • Preferably experience with Ultra High Vacuum systems

You have 5+ years of post-graduate experience and want to work at the cutting edge of technology. Your portfolio of experience may include working in different research-oriented settings.

Knowledge sharing and teaching others comes naturally to you, You are driven and self-motivated with a focus on pace and outcomes when you work to develop the best solutions with input from highly skilled colleagues in interdisciplinary fields.

Your colleagues would describe you as committed, structured, and curious. As a team player, your constructive and collaborative workstyle inspires others.

Faced with problems, you see new solutions and are motivated to collaborate with your colleagues and academic partners on the journey towards making Quantum Foundry Copenhagen one of the leading quantum foundries in the world.

For this position, we do not require previous experience working in quantum. If you are new to quantum, we will train you.

We offer
