The project includes study design, laboratory experiments, data analysis, supervision of students, and dissemination of research findings. Qualifications The candidate must have completed her/his PhD. Importantly, the candidate must possess the funding needed to be successful.
A strong background in cellular and molecular biology is required. The ideal candidate has experience with project and data management, analysis of multiplex immunostainings, and hands-on expertise with cellular 3D model systems and in vitro assays.
The candidate must possess knowledge of and experience with β-cell regeneration strategies, islet biology, epigenetic mechanisms, and T1D. Experience with clinical samples, human pancreas cell and tissue culture protocols, and use of epigenetic modifiers, is considered advantageous.
Likewise, the preferred candidate may hold a Laboratory Animal Science certification. Creativity, independent thinking, good communication and writing skills, as well as strong collaborative skills are all important qualities to fill this position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the research project. About the project Novel research in the field of diabetes has shed light on pathways that harness the body’s endogenous regenerative capacity to restore islet functionality.
The project intends to answer key questions concerning the spatial and molecular signature of dormant pancreatic precursors and the developmental processes of islet regeneration in human tissue. The outlined constitutes a collaborative effort between SDCC, the Bartholin Institute at Rigshospitalet, Oxford University (UK), and Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Melbourne, Australia) to provide an understanding of the benefits and limitations to an induced regenerative approach in pancreas tissue from human donors with and without type 1 diabetes.
The project will involve experimental work at Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Melbourne, Australia), the SDCC (Herlev, Denmark) and the Bartholin Institute (Copenhagen, Denmark), which is located at the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre, University of Copenhagen. The project includes study design, laboratory experiments, data analysis, supervision of students, and dissemination of research findings.
